Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about WVPTO
Where does the money I donate go?
The money donated to WVPTO funds the parent organization budget. All money collected directly benefits the students and staff of West Valley Elementary. Each year we have an annual budget of approximately $250,000 to fund the many programs and support staff positions currently on campus. For more details on the parent organization budget, we welcome parents to attend one of our monthly meetings.
Public school is supposed to be free. Why am I being asked to donate?
State funding barely covers rising expenses and mandated programs. Without WVPTO funding, many of the programs that enrich our children’s curriculum would not be possible. The Cupertino Union School District has been severely impacted by the state’s budget cuts. The programs funded by parent contributions are what will bridge the gap and keep our school performing at a level we are proud of and have come to expect.
How do I get involved with the WVPTO?
The WVPTO is a parent-run organization that relies on volunteers to function. We are always looking for additional assistance. If you are interested in getting involved, contact a WVPTO board member for additional information.

Will my fingerprints be passed to other government agencies?
Your fingerprints are cleared with the Department of Justice (DOJ). Your fingerprints will not be used for any purpose other than to make sure you are safe to work with children and will not be passed on to other agencies.
How long are my fingerprint results valid?
Cupertino Union School District (CUSD) requires all fingerprints be handled through LiveScan. As long as there is not a change in your status (you are not convicted of new crimes which would prevent you from working with children), you will not need to be fingerprinted again.
I had to be fingerprinted for work. Can this report be used?
No. CUSD requires all fingerprints be handled through Live Scan printing which will give CUSD the most up to date background information from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
How will the fingerprint requirements be tracked?
The results will be kept on file at the CUSD offices and West Valley office personnel will maintain an active list of approved volunteers.
