How it works

BEFORE WALKATHON DAY
  • Students take home their sponsor envelopes
  • Parent/Guardian signs the electronic permission slip sent home via email. The permission slip will be emailed by the school to all West Valley parents registered with the district. Any concerns with access to the online permission slip or choosing not to, please contact a WAT chairperson.
  • Students have two weeks to collect pledge donations. An online pledge tool is available in addition to collecting in person. The online tool will be open until donations are due to the school.
  • West Valley families are requested to assist with the following:
  • $10 donation to be used towards Walkathon drinks and raffle items
  • Bake goods the Friday before Walkathon
  • Silent auction donations
  • Sign up to volunteer (all WV parents asked to participate)

WALKATHON DAY
What happens at WAT
  • Walkers do not need to bring in their sponsor envelopes to Check In/Out
  • Check in begins at 8:00 am. Walking starts at 9am.
  • Students receive their lap cards at check in and then pick up their t-shirts.
  • Walkers proceed around the course as many times as they can from 9 am to 4 pm. The lap cards are punched once for each lap they pass by the punchers.
  • When the walker is finished for the day or needs to leave, the lap card must be turned in at Check Out. The process should be followed at any time during the day. If a student leaves and returns to the Walk-a-thon, lap cards will be given back to them upon their return. Lap cards may not leave campus while the track is open.
  • Walkers will be asked to verify their total laps walked at Check Out when finished for the day.
  • Any West Valley student who does not walk on Walk-a-thon day, but still wishes to participate, may do so by turning in the minimum donation amount by 2:30pm the day donations are due.
  • Families are encouraged to spend the day at Walk-a-thon. Food, refreshments, and bake sale items are available for sale. This accounts approximately 5% of our Walk-a-thon proceeds.
  • The silent auction will be open until 1:00 pm and basket raffle will be open until 2:00 pm during the Walk-a-thon. Families are encouraged to bid on donated items, as well as purchase raffle tickets for the possibility of winning one of the fabulous baskets.
  • Laps walked are entered into the system at Check Out. Students keep their lap cards as souvenirs.
Things to Bring
  • Cash for raffle tickets, food, bake sale, and refreshments
  • Checkbook or credit card for silent auction winnings
